Today an American gringa was arrested for taking cuttings of the Presidential Lavender bushes in Santiago. Police were alerted to the theft when a police officer who was directing traffic was almost overcome when a white Toyota Helix pickup truck drove by wafting the pungent smell down the street. He had presence of mind to notice the license number and radio it in prior to falling into a scent-related coma. Police chased down the vehicle and when they pulled it over approached with caution due to the DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS sticker in the rear window.
When questioned why she took the lavender Ms. Hughes replied "Because it was there". The American embassy has been contacted over this international incident. Their response was, "Vickie who?"
